Antique Furniture Restoration

Specialising in furniture repair and restoration.

I specialise in antique furniture repair and restoration and conservation, with work being carried out expertly and in sympathy with the period of furniture.

Services

Antique Furniture Restoration

By combining skilled craftsmanship with traditional materials and time-honoured techniques, I restore each piece with authenticity and respect. Working in keeping with original methods — from traditional joinery and hide glues to period finishes — ensures both structural integrity and historical accuracy. This careful, sympathetic approach preserves the character and longevity of every piece entrusted to me.

French Polishing & Waxing

I specialise in traditional methods of French polishing, as well as oiling and waxing, to enhance and protect fine furniture. Using time-honoured techniques and high-quality natural materials, I build up rich, deep finishes that highlight the beauty and character of the timber.

Whether restoring an original period surface or carefully reviving a tired finish, each piece is treated with patience and precision to achieve a result that is both sympathetic to its age and true to its craftsmanship.

Marquetry and Inlays

Marquetry and inlays are delicately repaired, replaced, or restored using traditional methods and carefully selected veneers. Missing or damaged elements are recreated by hand to match the original design, timber, and patina as closely as possible.

Each repair is carried out with precision and sensitivity, ensuring the integrity, balance, and character of the piece are faithfully preserved.

Veneering

Hand-cut, high-quality veneer replacement and repair for furniture and smaller items such as boxes and cases. Each veneer is carefully selected and matched for grain, figure, and colour to ensure a seamless and sympathetic repair.

Using traditional adhesives and techniques, damaged or lifting veneers are stabilised and restored, preserving both the structure and the original character of the piece.

Before & After

My story

Workshop Image 03

I am a second-generation antique furniture restorer, having trained extensively under my father, a master craftsman who specialised in 18th-century English furniture. From an early stage in my career, I had the privilege of working alongside him, developing a deep respect for traditional methods and period craftsmanship.

I continue to use many of the original tools that were passed down through my father — tools he himself inherited and mastered under the guidance of highly skilled craftsmen. His own training took place in London with Shards, a respected company renowned for fine furniture restoration and the production of handcrafted copies of English period pieces.

In the early 1990s, I established my own practice, continuing to restore period furniture for both trade clients and private collectors. Over the years, I have been fortunate to maintain a steady and loyal clientele.

I remain passionate about my craft and take great pride in my heritage. This dedication is reflected in the quality of my workmanship, my exacting standards, and my meticulous attention to detail.

Examples of my work can be viewed on this website, as well as on the social media platforms linked below.

Thank you for visiting my site and I look forward to meeting you in the future.
